Touch response across surface and accessories

Compare the same touch action with a dry screen, no cable and removable coverings removed.

Version 2.0.0 · About 20 minutes to organize observations

Planning estimate for recording observations; excludes charging, backups, drying and service. Not a measured repair time.

Preparation guide

  1. Choose one ordinary control, such as opening Settings. Record whether missed touches occur across apps or in only one app before changing anything.

  2. Check the screen is dry and clear of surface debris. Do not press on cracked glass or a separating display.

  3. Disconnect Lightning accessories. Repeat the same action; a cable-dependent improvement belongs in the accessory comparison.

  4. Remove only a safely removable case or protector, then repeat. If removal would disturb broken glass, stop and seek service.

  5. If touch permits, hold either volume button with Side, use the power-off slider and wait 30 seconds, then hold Side to start. Compare the same action after restart.

Check the result

  • Save the condition that improved touch and repeat only during normal use. Keep any implicated charging accessory out of use pending its own checks.
  • Ask Apple to review persistent touch failure with the exact app/control and accessory conditions.
Stop conditions
  • Stop using and charging equipment with swelling, casing separation, smoke, a burning smell or suspected battery damage. Do not open or press on it.
  • Set damaged accessories aside. Do not open mains adapters or force connectors.
  • Do not erase, reset, flash firmware or bypass a lock as a default diagnostic step.
