Unplug both cable ends. Leave emergency charging override unused for these checks. Record whether the warning began after known moisture or only with one accessory.

Gently tap the phone against your hand with Lightning facing down, then leave it in airflow. Use no heat, compressed air, rice or objects inside the connector.

Wait at least 30 minutes before a dry-cable check. If the warning returns, disconnect again and let drying continue.

Complete drying can take up to 24 hours. Record the later result only when you actually tried a dry connection; time elapsed alone is not a passing result.

A warning confined to one dry accessory should be taken to its manufacturer. Repeated warnings with a dry Apple cable need Apple service guidance.

Check the result
- Save when the alert cleared and which dry cable was used. Resume wired use only when phone and cable are dry.
- Bring the drying history and dry Apple-cable result to Apple. If only one accessory triggers the warning, contact its maker.
Stop conditions
- Stop using and charging equipment with swelling, casing separation, smoke, a burning smell or suspected battery damage. Do not open or press on it.
- Set damaged accessories aside. Do not open mains adapters or force connectors.
- Do not erase, reset, flash firmware or bypass a lock as a default diagnostic step.
