Direct display detection before dock troubleshooting

Compare a single monitor through a documented Intel video connection and preserve detection versus image.

Version 2.0.0 · About 20 minutes to organize observations

Planning estimate for recording observations; excludes charging, backups, drying and service. Not a measured repair time.

Preparation guide

  1. Use the Intel connector layout: the guide identifies Thunderbolt 4 USB-C and HDMI. A charging cable alone does not establish video capability; check the cable documentation.

  2. Remove the dock from the comparison. Connect one powered display directly through a documented compatible cable and select its matching input.

  3. Right-click a blank desktop area, open Display settings and use the displayed detection control if needed. Record detected-with-image, detected-but-dark or absent.

  4. Review the selected display and mode in Windows. Keep the monitor, input and mode fixed while comparing one known-compatible cable. Use settings supported by both devices.

  5. Only after the direct result is recorded, compare the exact supported dock path. Optional docking connectors differ by configuration; record unsupported or unavailable hardware separately.

Check the result

  • Direct baseline precedes dock interpretation.
  • Optional connectors are checked on the actual unit.
Stop conditions
  • Stop using and charging equipment with swelling, casing separation, smoke, a burning smell or suspected battery damage. Do not open or press on it.
  • Set damaged accessories aside. Do not open mains adapters or force connectors.
  • Do not erase, reset, flash firmware or bypass a lock as a default diagnostic step.
